Thou knowest the will of David my father, and that he could not build a house to the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars that were round about him, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

And God said to me: Thou shalt not build a house to my name; because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.

But the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Thou hast shed much blood, and fought many battles; so thou canst not build a house to my name, after shedding so much blood before me.

For he must reign, until he hath put all his enemies under his feet.

And you shall tread down the wicked when they shall be ashes under the sole of your feet in the day that I do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

Nevertheless thou shalt not build me a house: but thy son, that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build a house to my name.

And the king rising up and standing said: Hear me, my brethren and my people. I had a thought to have built a house, in which the ark of the Lord and the footstool of our God might rest: and I prepared all things for the building.

The hart and the roe, the buffle, the chamois, the pygarg, the wild goat, the camelopardalus.

And the meats of his table, and the dwelling-places of his servants, and the attendance of his officers, and their apparel, his cupbearers also, and their garments, and the victims which he offered in the house of the Lord: there was no more spirit in her, she was so astonished.

The Jews also and the magistrates to the number of one hundred and fifty men were at my table, besides them that came to us from among the nations that were round about us.

And there was prepared for me day by day one ox, and six choice rams, besides fowls: and once in ten days I gave store of divers wines, and many other things. Yet I did not require my yearly allowance as governor: for the people were very much impoverished.
