Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people which is so numerous?

But if any of you want wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men abundantly, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.

But strong meat is for the perfect; for them who by custom have their senses exercised to the discerning of good and evil.

I cannot of myself do any thing. As I hear, so I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Then let thy handmaid say, that the word of the Lord the king be made as a sacrifice. For even as an angel of God, so is my lord the king, that he is neither moved with blessing nor cursing. Wherefore the Lord thy God is also with thee.

The Lord also give thee wisdom and understanding, that thou mayest be able to rule Israel, and to keep the law of the Lord thy God.

But the wisdom, that is from above, first indeed is chaste, then peaceable, modest, easy to be persuaded, consenting to the good, full of mercy and good fruits, without judging, without dissimulation.

Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God.

Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God.

But John stayed him, saying: I ought to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me?

Say not: What thinkest thou is the cause that former times were better than they are now? for this manner of question is foolish.

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made them both.

Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may come in and go out before thy people: for who can worthily judge this thy people, which is so great?

And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, that he may keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy ceremonies, and do all things: and build the house, for which I have provided the charges.

That you may approve the better things, that you may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ,

To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient?

I indeed baptize you in the water unto penance, but he that shall come after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost and fire.

It is good that thou shouldst hold up the just, yea and from him withdraw not thy hand: for he that feareth God, neglecteth nothing.

And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God, behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.

The wisdom of a discreet man is to understand his way: and the imprudence of fools erreth.

And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged: and they feared the king, seeing that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.

And the word was pleasing to the Lord that Solomon had asked such a thing.

And all the earth desired to see Solomon's face, to hear his wisdom, which God had given in his heart.

And dost thou seek great things for thyself? Seek not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord but I will give thee thy life and save thee in all places whithersoever thou shalt go.
