And king David said to all the assembly: Solomon, my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is as yet young and tender; and the work is great, for a house is prepared not for man, but for God.
Moreover yesterday also and the day before, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that did lead out and bring in Israel. And the Lord said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.
And he said to them: I am this day a hundred and twenty years old. I can no longer go out and come in, especially as the Lord also hath said to me: Thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.
And David said: Solomon my son is very young and tender, and the house which I would have to be built to the Lord must be such as to be renowned in all countries; therefore I will prepare him necessaries. And therefore before his death he prepared all the charges.
The son, that shall be born to thee, shall be a most quiet man: for I will make him rest from all his enemies round about. And therefore he shall be called Peaceable: and I will give peace and quietness to Israel all his days.
And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak.
