Hast thou not seen Achab humbled before me? Therefore, because he hath humbled himself for my sake, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.

Nevertheless in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

But Jehu bent his bow with his hand, and shot Joram between the shoulders. And the arrow went out through his heart, and immediately he fell in his chariot.

And Achab had seventy sons in Samaria. So Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, to the chief men of the city, and to the ancients, and to them that brought up Achab's children, saying:

My hand made all these things, and all these things were made, saith the Lord. But to whom shall I have respect, but to him that is poor and little and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my words?

Hear the word of the Lord, you that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you and cast you out for my name's sake have said: Let the Lord be glorified and we shall see in your joy. But they shall be confounded.

And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.
