For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.

And consecrated their sons, and their daughters through fire. And they gave themselves to divinations, and soothsayings. And they delivered themselves up to do evil before the Lord, to provoke him.

Now there was not such another as Achab, who was sold to do evil in the sight of the Lord: for his wife Jezabel set him on.

And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel?

They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly.

THUS saith the Lord: What is this bill of the divorce of your mother, with which I have put her away? Or who is my creditor, to whom I sold you? Behold, you are sold for your iniquities: and for your wicked deeds have I put your mother away.

And he made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of Benennom. He observed dreams, followed divinations, gave himself up to magic arts, had with him magicians and enchanters: and he wrought many evils before the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee that this man would not prophesy me any good, but evil?

And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man, of whom we may ask the will of the Lord: but I hate him; for he never prophesieth good to me, but always evil. And it is Micheas the son of Jemla. And Josaphat said: Speak not thus, O king.

And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to the idols of the nations, which the Lord destroyed from before the face of the children of Israel.

And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man left, by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micheas the son of Jemla; but I hate him, for he doth not prophesy good to me, but evil. And Josaphat said: Speak not so, O king.

And Achab the son of Amri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him.

And the princes said to the king: We beseech thee that this man may be put to death: for on purpose he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of the people, speaking to them according to these words. For this man seeketh not peace to this people, but evil.

Therefore speak to them, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Man, man of the house of Israel, that shall place his uncleannesses in his heart and set up the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face and shall come to the prophet inquiring of me by him, I the Lord will answer him according to the multitude of his uncleannesses:

And the mourning being over, David sent and brought her into his house. And she became his wife; and she bore him a son. And this thing which David had done was displeasing to the Lord.
