And Samuel said to hinm: The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to thy neighbour who is better than thee.

Now, therefore, cursed shalt thou be upon the earth, which hath opened her mouth, and received the blood of thy brother at thy hand.

Whosoever shall shed man's blood, his blood shall be shed: for man was made to the image of God.

And Ruben, one of them, said: Did not I say to you: Do not sin against the boy; and you would not hear me? Behold, his blood is required.

And David said to him: Thy blood be upon thy own head. For thy own mouth hath spoken against thee, saying: I have slain the Lord's anointed.

But I as yet am tender, though anointed king: and these men the sons of Sarvia are too hard for me. The Lord reward him that doth evil according to his wickedness.

Behold, the Lord will strike thee with a great plague, with all thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance.

But if you do not what you say, no man can doubt but you sin against God. And know ye, that your sin shall overtake you.

And may it come upon the head of Joab, and upon all his father's house: and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue of seed, or that is a leper, or that holdeth the distaff, or that falleth by the sword, or that wanteth bread.

Then hear thou in heaven. And do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, and bringing his way upon his own head; and justifying the just, and rewarding him according to his justice.

His sorrow shall be turned on his own head: and his iniquity shall come down upon his crown.

Therefore, thus saith the Lord God: As I live, I will lay upon his head the oath he hath despised and the covenant he hath broken.
