And he said to Jeroboam: Take to thee ten pieces: for thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give thee ten tribes.

And Samuel turned about to go away; but he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

And Samuel said to hinm: The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to thy neighbour who is better than thee.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Juda, and said: I have ten parts in the king more than thou; and David belongeth to me more than to thee. Why hast thou done me a wrong, and why was it not told me first, that I might bring back my king? And the men of Juda answered more harshly than the men of Israel.

And the king condescended not to the people: for the Lord was turned away from him, to make good his word, which he had spoken in the hand of Ahias the Silonite, to Jeroboam the son of Nabat.

And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee: and thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and followed me with all his heart, doing that which was well pleasing in my sight:

Even from that time when Israel was rent from the house of David, and made Jeroboam son of Nabat their king. For Jeroboam separated Israel from the Lord, and made them commit a great sin.

And Jeroboam said to his wife: Arise, and change thy dress, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam. And go to Silo, where Ahias the prophet is, who told me, that I should reign over this people.

And he condescended not to the people's requests: for it was the will of God, that his word might be fulfilled, which he had spoken by the hand of Ahias the Silonite to Jeroboam the son of Nabat.
