Of the nations concerning which the Lord said to the children of Israel: You shall not go in unto them, neither shall any of them come in to yours; for they will most certainly turn away your heart to follow their gods. And to these was Solomon joined with a most ardent love.

Neither shalt thou take of their daughters a wife for thy son: lest after they themselves have committed fornication, they make thy sons also to commit fornication with their gods.

And his soul was fast knit unto her: and, whereas she was sad, he comforted her with sweet words.

Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh.

And I will set thy bounds from the Red Sea to the sea of the Palestines: and from the desert to the river. I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands: and will drive them out from before you.

Beware thou never join in friendship with the inhabitants of that land, which may be thy ruin.

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his mind was turned away from the Lord the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
