What then? Do I say, that what is offered in sacrifice to idols, is any thing? Or, that the idol is any thing?

But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.

And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

And the base things of the world, and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen, and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are:

Behold, they are all in the wrong, and their works are vain: their idols are wind and vanity.

All nations are before him as if they had no being at all, and are counted to him as nothing and vanity.

They have provoked me with that which was no god, and have angered me with their vanities. And I will provoke them with that which is no people, and will vex them with a foolish nation.

I am become foolish: you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you: for I have no way come short of them that are above measure apostles, although I be nothing.

And you see and hear, that this Paul by persuasion hath drawn away a great multitude, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying: They are not gods which are made by hands.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, fly from the service of idols.
