Now when David was dwelling in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet: Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under skins.

He made also houses for himself in the city of David: and built a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tabernacle for it.

You have looked for more, and behold it became less, and you brought it home, and I blowed it away: why, saith the Lord of hosts? because my house is desolate, and you make haste every man to his own house.

Is it time for you to dwell in ceiled houses, and this house lie desolate?

And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

And hath sent with him Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi: and they have set him upon the king's mule.

And they told the king, saying: Nathan the prophet is here. And when he was come in before the king, and had worshipped, bowing down to the ground,

But Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Rei, and the strength of David's army was not with Adonias.

And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name: Amiable to the Lord; because the Lord loved him.

And the Lord sent Nathan to David. And when he was come to him he said to him: There were two men in one city, the one rich, and the other poor.

And they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle, which David had pitched for it. And David offered holocausts, and peace-offerings before the Lord.

Who found grace before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

And David my father would have built a house to the name of the Lord the God of Israel.

And Nathan said to David: Do all that is in thy heart: for God is with thee.

And David said to Solomon: My son, it was my desire to have built a house to the name of the Lord my God.

And the king rising up and standing said: Hear me, my brethren and my people. I had a thought to have built a house, in which the ark of the Lord and the footstool of our God might rest: and I prepared all things for the building.

And thou shalt make the tabernacle in this manner: Thou shalt make ten curtains of fine twisted linen, and violet and purple, and scarlet twice dyed, diversified with embroidery.

And he called for Solomon his son: and commanded him to build a house to the Lord the God of Israel.
