After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and doubled his previous possessions.


In place of your shame, you will have a double portion; in place of disgrace, they will rejoice over their share. So they will possess double in their land, and eternal joy will be theirs.


so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.


The Lord has brought about our vindication; come, let’s tell in Zion what the Lord our God has accomplished.


There is hope for your future   – this is the  Lord’s declaration – and your children will return to their own territory.


The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge  in him.


There I will give her vineyards back to her and make the Valley of Achor  , into a gateway of hope. There she will respond as she did in the days of her youth, as in the day she came out of the land of Egypt.


‘Speak tenderly to   Jerusalem, and announce to her that her time of hard service is over, her iniquity  has been pardoned, and she has received from the  Lord’s hand double for all her sins.’


The Lord will roar from Zion and make his voice heard from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will shake. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the Israelites.


Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.  Look how they say, “Our bones are dried up,  and our hope has perished;  we are cut off.”


And you, watchtower for the flock, fortified hill  of Daughter Zion, the former rule  will come to you; sovereignty will come to Daughter Jerusalem.


Stand up, shake the dust off yourself! Take your seat, Jerusalem. Remove the bonds  from your neck, captive Daughter Zion.’


For there will be a day when watchmen will call out in the hill country of Ephraim, ‘Come, let’s go up to Zion, to the Lord our God! ’


For Sheol cannot thank you; Death cannot praise you. Those who go down to the Pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.


saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ and to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.


There is a voice of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon. The voice announces in Zion the vengeance of the  Lord our God, the vengeance for his temple.


We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.


They will be gathered together like prisoners in a pit. They will be confined to a dungeon; after many days they will be punished.


Hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a resident foreigner in the land, like a traveller stopping only for the night?


Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in a time of distress, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and they will say, ‘Our ancestors inherited only lies, worthless idols  of no benefit at all.’


Lord, the hope of Israel, all who abandon you will be put to shame. All who turn away from me will be written in the dirt, for they have abandoned the Lord, the fountain of living water.
