Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil,  who has taken them captive to do his will.


For certainly no one knows his time:  like fish caught in a cruel net or like birds caught in a trap,  so people are trapped in an evil time  as it suddenly falls on them.


Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord. They said: I will sing to the  Lord, for he is highly exalted; he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea.


Though you have not seen  him, you love him;  though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice  with inexpressible and glorious joy,


Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,


By rebellious speech an evil person is trapped, but a righteous person escapes from trouble.


A wicked man’s iniquities will trap him; he will become tangled in the ropes of his own sin.


We are writing these things  so that our  joy  may be complete.


Then the men of Israel returned, and the men of Benjamin were terrified when they realised that disaster had struck them.


There are thorns and snares on the way of the crooked; the one who guards himself stays far from them.


The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.
