for wealth is not for ever; not even a crown lasts for all time.


For everything in the world #– #the lust of the flesh,  the lust of the eyes,  and the pride  in one’s possessions #– #is not from the Father, but is from the world.


Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant  or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God,  who richly provides us with all things  to enjoy.


‘Don’t store up for yourselves treasures   on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.


‘Absolute futility,’ says the Teacher. ‘Everything is futile.’

Why do you spend silver on what is not food, and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods.


He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, it is gone.


‘Take him and look after him. Don’t do him any harm, but do for him whatever he says.’
