And he said to them, ‘Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure   you use,   it will be measured to you #– #and more will be added   to you.


Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits  to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.


‘Be on your guard against false prophets   who come to you in sheep’s   clothing   but inwardly are ravaging wolves.


Stay away from a foolish person; you will gain no knowledge from his speech.


If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive  him into your home, and do not greet him;


But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths.  Rather, train yourself in godliness.


Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching,  by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.


They will never follow a stranger; instead they will run away from him, because they don’t know the voice of strangers.’


Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.


Then Jesus told them, ‘Watch out and beware of the leaven   of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’


I know your works, your labour, and your endurance,   and that you cannot tolerate evil people. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not,   and you have found them to be liars.


The one who plunders his father and evicts his mother is a disgraceful and shameful son.


A worthless witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.


So you should not listen to your prophets, diviners,  dreamers, fortune-tellers,  or sorcerers  who say to you, “Don’t serve the king of Babylon! ”


Jonadab said to him, ‘Lie down on your bed and pretend you’re ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, “Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare a meal in my presence  so I can watch and eat from her hand.” ’


Then the young men who had grown up with him told him, ‘This is what you should say to the people who said to you, “Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us! ” This is what you should say to them: “My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!
