Do not rejoice over me,  my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will stand up; though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.

The one who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness  into dawn and darkens day into night, who summons the water of the sea and pours it out over the surface of the earth   – the Lord is his name.


There is no darkness, no deep darkness, where evildoers can hide.


Give glory to the  Lord your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the mountains at dusk. You wait for light, but he brings darkest gloom and makes total darkness.


It is a land of blackness like the deepest darkness, gloomy and chaotic, where even the light is like   the darkness.’


May darkness and gloom  reclaim it, and a cloud settle over it. May what darkens the day terrify it.


Nevertheless, the gloom of the distressed land will not be like that of the former times when he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali.  But in the future he will bring honour to the way of the sea, to the land east of the Jordan, and to Galilee of the nations.
