His betrayer had given them a signal. ‘The one I kiss,’ he said, ‘he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard.’


When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab pulled him aside to the middle of the city gate, as if to speak to him privately, and there Joab stabbed him in the stomach. So Abner died in revenge for the death of Asahel,  Joab’s brother.


While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived.  A large mob with swords and clubs was with him from the chief priests and elders of the people.


So immediately he went up to Jesus and said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi! ’ and kissed him.
