You are going to hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet.

When you hear of wars and rebellions,   don’t be alarmed. Indeed, it is necessary that these things take place first, but the end won’t come straight away.’


‘Don’t let your heart be troubled.   Believe   in God;   believe also in me.


not to be easily upset or troubled, either by a prophecy  , or by a message or by a letter supposedly from us, alleging that the day of the Lord  , has come.


‘Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.


This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world   as a testimony to all nations,   and then the end will come.


By your endurance, gain   your lives.


Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust him and not be afraid, for the Lord, the  Lord  himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.’


For I tell you, what is written must be fulfilled in me:   And he was counted among the lawless.   , Yes, what is written about me is coming to its fulfilment.’


How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled   that say it must happen this way? ’


‘Now you, son of man, prophesy, and say, “This is what the Lord God says concerning the Ammonites and their contempt.” You are to proclaim, “A sword! A sword is drawn for slaughter, polished to consume,  to flash like lightning.


Oh, sword of the  Lord! How long will you be restless? Go back to your sheath; be still; be silent!


Say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Don’t be afraid or cowardly  because of these two smouldering sticks, the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram, and the son of Remaliah.


When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.


Then another horse went out, a fiery red one,  and its rider was allowed to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another. And a large sword was given to him.
