When Herodias’s own daughter  came in and danced,  she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, ‘Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.’

When Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them  and pleased Herod.


Under the influence of  the wine, Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold and silver vessels  that his predecessor  Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, wives, and concubines could drink from them.


We played the flute for you, but you didn’t dance; we sang a lament, but you didn’t mourn!


For Herod had arrested John, chained  him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
