Immediately a cock crowed a second time,  and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him, ‘Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.’ And he broke down and wept.

‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus said to him, ‘today, this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.’


But he denied it: ‘I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about.’ Then he went out to the entrance,  and a cock crowed.


The survivors among them will escape and live on the mountains. Like doves of the valley, all of them will moan, each over his own iniquity.


For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly grief produces death.


And he went outside and wept bitterly.

so that when I make atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed,  and never open your mouth again because of your disgrace.  This is the declaration of the Lord God.” ’


David’s conscience troubled him  after he had taken a census of the troops. He said to the Lord, ‘I have sinned greatly in what I’ve done. Now, Lord, because I’ve been very foolish,  please take away your servant’s guilt.’


Then he started to curse and swear,  ‘I don’t know this man you’re talking about! ’
