He who has the bride  is the groom. But the groom’s friend, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly  at the groom’s voice. So this joy  of mine is complete.


For I am jealous  for you with a godly jealousy,  because I have promised you in marriage to one husband #– #to present a pure  virgin to Christ.


‘The kingdom of heaven   is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.


The Lord your God is among you, a warrior  who saves. He will rejoice over you  with gladness. He will be quiet  in his love. He will delight in you with singing.’


For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.


Indeed, your husband is your Maker   – his name is the Lord  of Armies – and the Holy One of Israel  is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth.


Where has your love gone, most beautiful of women? Which way has he   turned? We will seek him with you.


Young women of Jerusalem, I charge you, if you find my love, tell him that I am lovesick.


Jesus said to them, ‘Can the wedding guests   be sad while the groom is with them? The time   will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.


Then they said to him, ‘John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.’


But the time   will come   when the groom will be taken away from them #– #then they will fast in those days.’
