Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated him with contempt, mocked  him, dressed him in bright clothing,  and sent him back to Pilate.

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.


Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe.  Pilate said to them, ‘Here is the man! ’


‘Elijah does come first and restores   all things,’   he replied. ‘Why then is it written   that the Son of Man must suffer   many things and be treated with contempt?


This is what the  Lord, the Redeemer  of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people,  , to a servant of rulers: ‘Kings will see, princes will stand up, and they  will all bow down because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel   #– #and he has chosen you.’


At that time  Herod the tetrarch  heard the report about Jesus.


For Herod had arrested John, chained  him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,


When Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them  and pleased Herod.


The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.


For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in,


if you look with favour on the one wearing the fine clothes and say, ‘Sit here in a good place,’ and yet you say to the poor person, ‘Stand over there,’ or ‘Sit here on the floor by my footstool,’
