The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.
For we have found this man to be a plague, an agitator among all the Jews throughout the Roman world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
But they kept insisting, ‘He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he started even to here.’
They began to accuse him, saying, ‘We found this man misleading our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king.’
When he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to cross-examine him about many things;
While he was being accused by the chief priests and elders, he didn’t answer.
So he kept asking him questions, but Jesus did not answer him.
Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated him with contempt, mocked him, dressed him in bright clothing, and sent him back to Pilate.
