For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions  and pleasures,  living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.


Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.

But now, since you have been set free from sin and have become enslaved to God,  you have your fruit, which results in sanctification   #– #and the outcome is eternal life!


Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and travelled to a distant country, where he squandered   his estate in foolish living.


I will throw filth on you and treat you with contempt; I will make a spectacle of you.


so that when I make atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed,  and never open your mouth again because of your disgrace.  This is the declaration of the Lord God.” ’


You must also bear your disgrace, since you have helped your sisters.  For they appear more righteous than you because of your sins, which you committed more detestably than they did. So you also, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear righteous.


Because of his sinful greed I was angry, so I struck him; I was angry and hid; but he went on turning back to the desires of his heart.


At the time of his distress, King Ahaz himself became more unfaithful to the Lord.


So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and told him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may worship me.


Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs,   or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.


After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing.


He longed to eat his fill from   the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything.
