‘So the servant came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his servant, “Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.”

On the contrary, when you host a banquet,   invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind.


Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world  to be rich in faith  and heirs  of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?


The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy   are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,


Jesus said, ‘I came into this world   for judgement,   in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind.’


For I tell you, not one of those people who were invited will enjoy my banquet.” ’


Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy, for water will gush in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;


how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?  This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him.


He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the rubbish heap. He seats them with noblemen and gives them a throne of honour. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; he has set the world on them.


Both the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come! ’ Let anyone who hears, say, ‘Come! ’ Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely.


A sharp  sword  came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it.  He will rule  them with an iron rod.  He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God,  the Almighty.


Obey your leaders  and submit to them, since they keep watch  over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.


and repentance for   forgiveness of sins   will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,   beginning at Jerusalem.


‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.


Your ropes are slack; they cannot hold the base of the mast or spread out the flag. Then abundant spoil will be divided, the lame will plunder it,


When the apostles returned,  they reported to Jesus all that they had done.  He took them along and withdrew privately to a  town called Bethsaida.


When the other servants saw what had taken place, they were deeply distressed and went and reported to their master everything that had happened.


Then the disciples came up and told him, ‘Do you know that the Pharisees took offence when they heard what you said? ’


It was annulled on that day, and so the oppressed of the flock  who were watching me knew that it was the word of the Lord.


So I shepherded the flock intended for slaughter, the oppressed of the flock.  I took two staffs, calling one Favour  and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock.


Roam  through the streets of Jerusalem. Investigate; search in her squares. If you find one person, any who acts justly, who pursues faithfulness, then I will forgive her.


David’s young men retraced their steps. When they returned to him, they reported all these words.


‘And another said, “I just got married,   and therefore I’m unable to come.”


‘ “Master,” the servant said, “what you ordered has been done, and there’s still room.”


‘ “Because no one hired us,” they said to him. ‘ “You also go into my vineyard,” he told them.
