I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth,  and you will be mute  and unable to be a mediator for  them, for they are a rebellious house.


On that day your mouth will be opened to talk with him; you will speak and no longer be mute.  So you will be a sign for them, and they will know that I am the Lord.’

Later he appeared to the Eleven  themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw him after he had risen.

The Lord said to him, ‘Who placed a mouth on humans? Who makes a person mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?


What then? If some were unfaithful,  will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness?


While he was saying these words to me, I turned my face towards the ground and was speechless.


The angel answered him, ‘I am Gabriel,  who stands in the presence of God,  and I was sent to speak to you and tell you this good news.


Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah, amazed that he stayed so long in the sanctuary.


Immediately his mouth was opened  and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.
