You must not oppress a resident foreigner;  you yourselves know how it feels to be a resident foreigner because you were resident foreigners in the land of Egypt.


‘You must not exploit a resident foreigner  or oppress him, since you were resident foreigners in the land of Egypt.

The people of the land have practised extortion and committed robbery.  They have oppressed the poor and needy and unlawfully exploited the resident foreigner.


Father and mother are treated with contempt,  and the resident foreigner is exploited within you. The fatherless and widow are oppressed in you.


Do not deny justice to a resident foreigner or fatherless child, and do not take a widow’s garment as security.


Remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed  you from there. Therefore I am commanding you to do this.


“The one who denies justice to a resident foreigner, a fatherless child, or a widow is cursed.” And all the people will say, “Amen! ”


‘Whoever sacrifices to any gods, except the Lord alone, is to be set apart for destruction.
