So Midian was subdued before the Israelites, and they were no longer a threat. The land had peace for forty years  during the days of Gideon.

Lord, may all your enemies perish as Sisera did. But may those who love him be like the rising of the sun in its strength. And the land had peace for forty years.


Then the land had peace for  forty years, and Othniel son of Kenaz died.

Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) son of Joash went back to live at his house.


So the Philistines were subdued  and  did not invade Israel’s territory again.  The Lord’s hand was against the Philistines all of Samuel’s life.
