‘Woman,’ Jesus said to her, ‘why are you crying? Who is it that you’re seeking? ’ Supposing he was the gardener, she replied, ‘Sir, if you’ve carried him away, tell me where you’ve put him, and I will take him away.’

They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you crying? ’ ‘Because they’ve taken away my Lord,’  she told them, ‘and I don’t know where they’ve put him.’


Then he asked them again, ‘Who is it that you’re seeking? ’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they said.


When Jesus turned and noticed them following him, he asked them, ‘What are you looking for? ’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’  (which means ‘Teacher’), ‘where are you staying? ’


‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he told them. ‘You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,  who was crucified. He has risen!  He is not here. See the place where they put him.


The angel told the women, ‘Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.


I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and the squares. I will seek the one I love. I sought him, but did not find him.


Don’t think of me as a wicked woman;  I’ve been praying from the depth of my anguish and resentment.’


Then Jesus, knowing everything that was about to happen to him,  went out and said to them, ‘Who is it that you’re seeking? ’


So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground. ‘Why are you looking for the living among the dead? ’ asked the men.


Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow   of the heart.


Where has your love gone, most beautiful of women? Which way has he   turned? We will seek him with you.


Assuming he was in the travelling party, they went a day’s journey. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends.
