So Jesus said to them, ‘When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own. But just as the Father taught me, I say these things.
But we do see Jesus #– #made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace he might taste death for everyone #– #crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death.
And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation.
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh , but made alive by the Spirit,
he says, ‘It is not enough for you to be my servant raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring the protected ones of Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations, to be my salvation to the ends of the earth.’
Then the crowd replied to him, ‘We have heard from the law that the Messiah will remain for ever. So how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up”? Who is this Son of Man? ’

Absalom was riding on his mule when he happened to meet David’s soldiers. When the mule went under the tangled branches of a large oak tree, Absalom’s head was caught fast in the tree. The mule under him kept going, so he was suspended in mid-air.
On that day the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will look to him for guidance, and his resting place will be glorious.
