So then, dear friends, since we have these promises,  let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit,  bringing holiness to completion  in the fear of God.


I always strive to have a clear conscience  towards God and men.


You have wearied the Lord   with your words. Yet you ask, ‘How have we wearied him? ’ When you say, ‘Everyone who does what is evil is good in the Lord’s sight, and he is delighted with them,  or else where is the God of justice? ’


The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the  Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.


Lying lips are detestable to the  Lord, but faithful people are his delight.


Those with twisted minds are detestable to the  Lord, but those with blameless conduct are his delight.


Dishonest scales are detestable to the  Lord, but an accurate weight is his delight.


I know, my God, that you test the heart  and that you are pleased with what is right.  I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen your people who are present  here giving joyfully and  willingly to you.


But I have received everything in full,  and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied,  having received from Epaphroditus  what you provided #– #a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing  to God.


Can a man be of any use to God? Can even a wise man be of use to him?


Does he correct you and take you to court because of your piety?


If you are righteous, what do you give him, or what does he receive from your hand?


Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him, and what will we gain by pleading with him? ’


For he has said, ‘A man gains nothing when he becomes God’s friend.’


If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit; if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences.’
