Jeremiah 40:5

When Jeremiah had not yet turned to go, Nebuzaradan said to him,  ‘Return  to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people or go wherever it seems right for you to go.’ So the captain of the guards gave him a ration  and a gift  and released him.

had Jeremiah brought from the guard’s courtyard  and turned him over to Gedaliah  son of Ahikam,  son of Shaphan, to take him home. So he settled among his own people.


but then Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword; he killed the one the king of Babylon had appointed in the land.


Therefore, we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?   ,


So they heaped many honours on us, and when we sailed, they gave us what we needed.


But the centurion kept them from carrying out their plan because he wanted to save Paul, and so he ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.


The next day we put in at Sidon, and Julius treated Paul kindly and allowed him to go to his friends to receive their care.


Now pay attention: Today I am setting you free from the chains that were on your hands.  If it pleases you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take care of you. But Ahikam  son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.


The Lord said: Haven’t I set you loose for your own good? Haven’t I punished you in a time of trouble, in a time of distress with the enemy?


A king’s heart is like channelled water in the  Lord’s hand: He directs it wherever he chooses.


When a person’s ways please the  Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.


When others are humiliated and you say, ‘Lift them up,’ God will save the humble.  ,


Please, Lord, let your ear be attentive  to the prayer of your servant and to that of your servants who delight to revere your name. Give your servant success today,  and grant him compassion in the presence of this man.  , At the time, I was the king’s cupbearer.


Blessed be the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s mind  to glorify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem,


#– #came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses,  which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he requested  because the hand of the Lord his God was on him.


Then he commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, the court secretary Shaphan, and the king’s servant Asaiah,


So  the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophetess  Huldah, wife of Shallum son of Tikvah,  son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem in the Second District.  They spoke with her.


Then he commanded the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam  son of Shaphan, Achbor  son of Micaiah, the court secretary Shaphan, and the king’s servant Asaiah,


In the seventh month, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family and one of the king’s chief officers, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. They ate a meal together there in Mizpah,


away from the Chaldeans. For they feared them because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.
