Therefore King Adoni-zedek of Jerusalem sent word to King Hoham of Hebron, King Piram of Jarmuth, King Japhia of Lachish, and King Debir of Eglon, saying,


Declare in Judah, proclaim in Jerusalem, and say, Blow the ram’s horn throughout the land. Cry out loudly and say, ‘Assemble yourselves, and let’s flee to the fortified cities.’

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon,  his whole army, all the kingdoms of the lands under his control,  and all other peoples were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities:


Then the cities of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods they have been burning incense to, but they certainly will not save them in their time of disaster.


Why are we just sitting here? Gather together; let’s enter the fortified cities and perish there, for the Lord our God has destroyed   us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the  Lord.


He also built cities in the hill country of Judah and fortresses and towers in the forests.


When  the royal spokesman heard that the king of Assyria had gone from Lachish,  he left and found him fighting against Libnah.

They will besiege you within all your city gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your city gates throughout the land the Lord your God has given you.


So the five Amorite kings #– #the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon #– #joined forces, advanced with all their armies, besieged Gibeon, and fought against it.


A conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem,  and he fled to Lachish.  However, men were sent after him to Lachish, and they put him to death there.


Then the king of Assyria sent his royal spokesman, along with a massive army, from Lachish  to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. The Assyrian stood near the conduit of the upper pool, by the road to Launderer’s Field.
