Why, Lord, do you make us stray from your ways? You harden our hearts so that we do not fear   you. Return, because of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.

Make the minds  of these people dull; deafen their ears and blind their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed.


For it was the Lord’s intention to harden their hearts,  so that they would engage Israel in battle, be completely destroyed without mercy, and be annihilated, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The Lord instructed Moses, ‘When you go back to Egypt, make sure you do before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will harden his heart  , so that he won’t let the people go.


Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,  and he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.


Therefore, I will again confound these people with wonder after wonder. The wisdom of their wise will vanish, and the perception of their perceptive will be hidden.


His breath is like an overflowing torrent that rises to the neck. He comes to sift the nations in a sieve of destruction and to put a bridle on the jaws of the peoples to lead them astray.


He has walled in my ways with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.


When they sacrificed every firstborn in the fire,  , I defiled them through their gifts in order to devastate them so that they would know that I am the Lord.”


The Lord of Armies will bless them, saying, ‘Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork,  and Israel my inheritance are blessed.’
