The Lord has sworn with his right hand and his strong arm: I will no longer give your grain to your enemies for food, and foreigners will not drink the new wine for which you have laboured.

A people you don’t know will eat your land’s produce and everything you have laboured for. You will only be oppressed and crushed continually.


Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken away from you and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will help you.


Say to them, “This is what the Lord God says: On the day I chose Israel, I swore an oath  , to the descendants of Jacob’s house and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt. I swore to them, saying, ‘I am the Lord your God.’


They will consume your harvest and your food. They will consume your sons and your daughters. They will consume your flocks and your herds. They will consume your vines and your fig trees. With the sword they will destroy your fortified cities  in which you trust.


Your land is desolate, your cities burned down; foreigners devour your fields right in front of you – a desolation, like a place demolished by foreigners.


I raise my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live for ever,


then I will do this to you: I will bring terror  on you #– #wasting disease and fever that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will sow your seed in vain because your enemies will eat it.


By myself I have sworn; truth has gone from my mouth, a word that will not be revoked: Every knee will bow  to me, every tongue will swear allegiance.


‘For this is like the days  of Noah to me: when I swore that the water of Noah would never flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you.


Why do you spend silver on what is not food, and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods.


You will become engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You will build a house but not live in it.  You will plant a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit.


He saw that there was no man – he was amazed that there was no one interceding; so his own arm brought salvation, and his own righteousness supported him.


You will plant vineyards again on the mountains of Samaria; the planters will plant and will enjoy the fruit.


I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel.  , They will rebuild and occupy ruined cities, plant vineyards and drink their wine, make gardens and eat their produce.
