‘Therefore, this is what the Lord says about the king of Assyria: He will not enter this city, shoot an arrow here, come before it with a shield, or build up a siege ramp against it.

The answer marked  Jerusalem appears in his right hand, indicating that he should set up battering rams,  give the order to  slaughter, raise a battle cry, set battering rams against the gates, build a ramp, and construct a siege wall.


Look at Zion, the city of our festival times. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture,  a tent that does not wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up nor will any of its cords be loosened.


In the evening #– #sudden terror! Before morning #– #it is gone! This is the fate of those who plunder us and the lot of those who ravage us.


Ah! The roar of many peoples – they roar like the roaring of the seas. The raging of the nations – they rage like the rumble of rushing water.

Look! Siege ramps  have come against the city to capture it, and the city, as a result of the sword, famine, and plague, has been handed over to the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you have spoken has happened. Look, you can see it!


But you may destroy the trees that you know do not produce food. You may cut them down to build siege works against the city that is waging war against you, until it falls.
