God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfil?


I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I am the Lord, who does all these things.


to the only  God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord,  be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time,  now and for ever. Amen.

Heaven and earth will pass away,   but my words will never pass away.

If a ram’s horn  is blown in a city, aren’t people afraid? If a disaster  occurs in a city, hasn’t the Lord done it?


He made the earth by his power, established the world  by his wisdom, and spread out the heavens by his understanding.


But didn’t my words and my statutes that I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors? ” ’ So the people repented and said, ‘As the Lord of Armies decided to deal with us for our ways and our deeds, so he has dealt with us.’

Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch son of Neriah, the scribe, and he wrote on it at Jeremiah’s dictation  all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim,  Judah’s king, had burned in the fire. And many other words like them were added.


Who should not fear you, King of the nations? It is what you deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.


For a fool speaks foolishness and his mind plots iniquity. He lives in a godless way and speaks falsely about the  Lord. He leaves the hungry empty and deprives the thirsty of drink.


Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the Lord raises his hand to strike, the helper will stumble and the one who is helped will fall; both will perish together.


But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your humiliation.


For the Lord will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim. He will rise in wrath, as at the Valley of Gibeon, to do his work, his unexpected work, and to perform his task, his unfamiliar task.


The Lord of Armies has directly revealed to me: ‘This iniquity will not be wiped out for you people as long as you live.’  , The Lord God of Armies has spoken.


Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogant words come out of your mouth, for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and actions are weighed by him.


Just as every good thing the Lord your God promised you has come about, so he will bring on you every bad thing until he has annihilated you from this good land the Lord your God has given you.


Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say: Arise, Lord! Let your enemies be scattered, and those who hate you flee from your presence.


He traps the wise in their craftiness so that the plans of the deceptive are quickly brought to an end.


Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned  the  Lord; they have despised  the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on him.


Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over  Israel’s young men and has no compassion on its fatherless and widows, for everyone is a godless evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


You will not join them in burial, because you destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of evildoers will never be mentioned again.


This also comes from the  Lord of Armies. He gives wondrous advice; he gives great wisdom.


Wisdom and strength belong to God; counsel and understanding are his.


True wisdom and power belong to him. The deceived and the deceiver are his.


The remaining Kedarite archers will be few in number.’ For the Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.
