The Lord will roar from Zion and make his voice heard from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will shake. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the Israelites.
The fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the animals of the field, every creature that crawls on the ground, and every human being on the face of the earth will tremble before me. The mountains will be demolished, the cliffs will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.
For this is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Daughter Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time it is trampled. In just a little while her harvest time will come.
All the stars in the sky will dissolve. The sky will roll up like a scroll, and its stars will all wither as leaves wither on the vine, and foliage on the fig tree.
And some of the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will view their bodies for three and a half days and not permit their bodies to be put into a tomb.
People will go into caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the Lord and from his majestic splendour, when he rises to terrify the earth.
Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will shake from its foundations at the wrath of the Lord of Armies, on the day of his burning anger.
‘Look, the days are coming’ – this is the Lord’s declaration – ‘when I will fulfil the good promise that I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
