Seven days from now I will make it rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and every living thing I have made I will wipe off the face of the earth.’


After he had fasted for forty days and forty nights,  he was hungry.


The flood continued for forty days on the earth; the water increased and lifted up the ark so that it rose above the earth.


So he got up, ate, and drank. Then on the strength from that food, he walked for forty days and forty nights  to Horeb, the mountain of God.


‘I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights like the first time. The Lord also listened to me on this occasion;  he agreed not to annihilate you.

Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.


Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded.


The sources of the watery depths and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the rain from the sky stopped.
