Now, my son, listen to me and do what I tell you.


Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they set out together from Ur of the Chaldeans  to go to the land of Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.


His mother said to him, ‘Your curse be on me, my son. Just obey me and go and get them for me.’


Peter and the apostles replied, ‘We must obey God rather than people.


The words of Jonadab, son of Rechab, have been carried out. He commanded his descendants not to drink wine, and they have not drunk to this day because they have obeyed their ancestor’s command. But I have spoken to you time and time again,  , and you have not obeyed me!


As for the eye that ridicules a father and despises obedience to a mother, may ravens of the valley pluck it out and young vultures eat it.


And Jacob listened to his father and mother and went to Paddan-aram.


Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban,  and Laban ran out to the man at the spring.


Jacob left Beer-sheba and went towards Haran.


When the words of her elder son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she summoned her younger son Jacob and said to him, ‘Listen, your brother Esau is consoling himself by planning to kill you.


So Isaac sent Jacob to Paddan-aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.


God said to Jacob, ‘Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there.  Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.’


Isaac was forty years old when he took as his wife Rebekah  daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram  and sister of Laban the Aramean.
