David then asked him, ‘Will you lead me to these raiders? ’ He said, ‘Swear to me by God that you won’t kill me or turn me over to my master, and I will lead you to them.’
But David said, ‘Your father certainly knows that I have found favour with you. He has said, “Jonathan must not know of this, or else he will be grieved.” ’ David also swore, ‘As surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.’
and the men of Israel were worn out that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath: ‘The man who eats food before evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies is cursed.’ So none of the troops tasted any food.
So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about.
Swear to me by God here and now, that you will not break an agreement with me or with my children and descendants. As I have been loyal to you, so you will be loyal to me and to the country where you are a resident foreigner.’
Early in the morning Abraham got up, took bread and a waterskin, put them on Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her and the boy away. She left and wandered in the Wilderness of Beer-sheba.
and said, ‘My lords, turn aside to your servant’s house, wash your feet, and spend the night. Then you can get up early and go on your way.’ ‘No,’ they said. ‘We would rather spend the night in the square.’
