and who has shown favour to me before the king,  his counsellors, and all his powerful officers. So I took courage because I was strengthened by the hand of the Lord my God,  , and I gathered Israelite leaders to return with me.

Though we are slaves,  our God has not abandoned us in our slavery. He has extended grace to us in the presence of the Persian kings,  giving us relief, so that we can rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins,  to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.


And let me have a letter written to Asaph, keeper of the king’s forest, so that he will give me timber to rebuild the gates of the temple’s fortress,  the city wall, and the home where I will live.’  , The king granted my requests, for the gracious hand of my God was on me.

Then he issued a decree  in Nineveh: By order of the king and his nobles: No person or animal, herd or flock, is to taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink water.


Please, Lord, let your ear be attentive  to the prayer of your servant and to that of your servants who delight to revere your name. Give your servant success today,  and grant him compassion in the presence of this man.  , At the time, I was the king’s cupbearer.


You are sent by the king and his seven counsellors  to evaluate Judah and Jerusalem according to the law of your God, which is in your possession.


He began the journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month  and arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month  since the gracious hand of his God was on him.
