A large population is a king’s splendour, but a shortage of people is a ruler’s devastation.


Years later,  after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people  and observed their forced labour.  He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people.


and spoke to them according to the young men’s advice: ‘My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with barbed whips.’


Now therefore, my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I, with barbed whips.” ’
