A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.


Do not give false testimony against your neighbour.


Do not give dishonest testimony against your neighbour.


Do not go about spreading slander  among your people; do not jeopardise  your neighbour’s life; I am the Lord.


Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have now come, because the accuser  of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been thrown down.


And why not say, just as some people slanderously claim we say, ‘Let us do what is evil so that good may come’?  Their condemnation is deserved!


A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies perishes.


Yet do this with gentleness and reverence, keeping a clear conscience,  so that when you are accused,  those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame.


unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers,  without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,


Therefore, putting away  lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbour,   , because we are members of one another.


Don’t testify against your neighbour without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.


A lying witness will perish, but the one who listens will speak successfully.


The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.

‘Do not steal.  Do not act deceptively  or lie  to one another.


But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor,  Lord. And if I have extorted  anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much.’


Some soldiers also questioned him, ‘What should we do? ’ He said to them, ‘Don’t take money from anyone by force or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.’


‘Which ones? ’ he asked him. Jesus answered: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness;


For I have heard the gossip of many people, ‘Terror is on every side! Report him; let’s report him! ’ Everyone I trusted  watches for my fall. ‘Perhaps he will be deceived so that we might prevail against him and take our vengeance on him.’


The north wind produces rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.


A person giving false testimony against his neighbour is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.


A worthless witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.


A wicked person listens to malicious talk; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.


Whoever speaks the truth declares what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit.


Ziba slandered your servant to my lord the king.  But my lord the king is like the angel of God,  so do whatever you think best.


‘Where is your master’s grandson? ’ the king asked. ‘Why, he’s staying in Jerusalem,’ Ziba replied to the king, ‘for he said, “Today, the house of Israel will restore my grandfather’s kingdom to me.” ’


Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent and the just, because I will not justify the guilty.


‘Our law doesn’t judge a man before it hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it? ’


Then she told him the same story: ‘The Hebrew slave you brought to us came to make a fool of me,


An honest witness does not deceive, but a dishonest witness utters lies.
