Later, Moses and Aaron went in and said to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival for me in the wilderness.’


They will listen to what you say. Then you, along with the elders of Israel, must go to the king of Egypt and say to him: The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go on a three-day trip into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.


Fathers, don’t stir up anger  in your children, but bring them up in the training  and instruction of the Lord.


So remember your Creator in the days of your youth: Before the days of adversity come, and the years approach when you will say, ‘I have no delight in them’;


Honour the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest;


But if it doesn’t please you to worship the Lord, choose for yourselves today: Which will you worship #– #the gods your ancestors worshipped beyond the River Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living?  As for me and my family, we will worship the Lord.’


‘You are to hold a sacred assembly on the fifteenth day of the seventh month;  you do not do any daily work. You are to celebrate a seven-day festival for the Lord.


For seven days you must eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there is to be a festival to the Lord.


They answered, ‘The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go on a three-day trip into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, or else he may strike us with plague or sword.’


along with all Joseph’s family, his brothers, and his father’s family. Only their dependents, their flocks, and their herds were left in the land of Goshen.


He said to them, ‘The Lord would have to be with you if I would ever let you and your families go! Look out #– #you’re heading for trouble.


Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind because we will take some of them to worship the Lord our God. We will not know what we will use to worship the Lord until we get there.’


Take even your flocks and your herds as you asked and leave, and also bless me.’


The Israelites travelled from Rameses to Succoth,  about six hundred thousand  able-bodied men on foot, besides their families.


A mixed crowd also went up with them, along with a huge number of livestock, both flocks and herds.
