‘When your son asks you in the future, “What is the meaning  of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God has commanded you? ”

‘In the future, when your son  asks you, “What does this mean? ” say to him, “By the strength of his hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.


When your children  ask you, “What does this ceremony mean to you? ”


Start a youth out on his way; even when he grows old he will not depart from it.


Repeat them to your children.  Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.


On that day explain to your son, “This is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.”


‘Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves,  so that you don’t forget  the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind  as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.


by driving out all your enemies before you, as the Lord has said.


tell him, “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand.


and so that you may tell  your son and grandson  how severely I dealt with the Egyptians and performed miraculous signs among them, and you will know that I am the Lord.’
