so that at noon you will grope as a blind person gropes in the dark.  You will not be successful in anything you do. You will only be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you.

We grope along a wall like the blind; we grope like those without eyes. We stumble at noon as though it were twilight; we are like the dead among those who are healthy.


They encounter darkness by day, and they grope at noon as if it were night.


The Israelites again did what was evil in the Lord’s sight,  so the Lord handed them over to the Philistines for forty years.


They shattered and crushed the Israelites that year, and for eighteen years they did the same to all the Israelites who were on the other side of the Jordan  in the land of the Amorites  in Gilead.

I don’t want you to be ignorant  of this mystery,  brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited:  A partial hardening has come upon Israel  until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.


Take these men, purify yourself along with them, and pay for them to get their heads shaved. Then everyone will know that what they were told about you amounts to nothing, but that you yourself are also careful about observing the law.


I will bring distress on mankind, and they will walk like the blind because they have sinned against the  Lord. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.


Because of this, our heart is sick; because of these, our eyes grow dim:


Slaves rule over us; no one rescues us from them.


They grope around in darkness without light; he makes them stagger like a drunkard.


Its abundant harvest goes to the kings you have set over us, because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please. We are in great distress.


They struck the men who were at the entrance of the house, both young and old, with blindness  so that they were unable to find the entrance.


Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand towards heaven, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness that can be felt.’


The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness, and mental confusion,


For a sound of lamentation is heard from Zion: How devastated we are. We are greatly ashamed, for we have abandoned the land; our dwellings have been torn down.


Blind, they stumbled in the streets, defiled by this blood, so that no one dared to touch their garments.
