Be careful that there isn’t this wicked thought in your heart, “The seventh year, the year of cancelling debts, is near,” and you are stingy towards your poor brother and give him nothing. He will cry out to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty.

You are to pay him his wages each day before the sun sets, because he is poor and depends on them.  Otherwise he will cry out to the Lord against you, and you will be held guilty.


Don’t I have the right to do what I want with what is mine? Are you jealous   because I’m generous? ”   ,


Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!


I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart  , to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.


If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.


Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers  who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.


For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies,   slander.


A greedy one  is in a hurry for wealth; he doesn’t know that poverty will come to him.


Don’t eat a stingy person’s bread,  , and don’t desire his delicacies,


but caused the poor to cry out to him, and he heard the outcry of the needy.


Then the Lord said, ‘I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out  because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,


Be hospitable  to one another without complaining.


So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.


Or do you think it’s without reason that the Scripture says: The spirit he made to dwell in us envies intensely?  ,


A foolish scheme is sin, and a mocker is detestable to people.


The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will himself also call out and not be answered.


Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.


‘At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts.


‘You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.


Moses commanded them, ‘At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of debt cancellation,  during the Festival of Shelters,


The one who despises his neighbour sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.


“At the end of seven years, each of you must let his fellow Hebrew who sold himself  to you go. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free from your service.”  But your ancestors did not obey me or pay any attention.
