You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts  in a day of slaughter.


The Lord says: As the shepherd snatches two legs or a piece of an ear from the lion’s mouth, so the Israelites who live in Samaria will be rescued with only the corner of a bed or the  cushion  of a couch.  ,


‘There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen,   feasting lavishly every day.


But look: joy and gladness, butchering of cattle, slaughtering of sheep and goats, eating of meat, and drinking of wine – ‘Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die! ’


White and blue linen hangings were fastened with fine white and purple linen cords to silver rods on marble  columns. Gold and silver couches  were arranged on a mosaic pavement of red feldspar,  marble, mother-of-pearl, and precious stones.


Do not enter the house where feasting is taking place to sit with them to eat and drink.

For the wealthy of the city are full of violence, and its residents speak lies; the tongues in their mouths are deceitful.


They sat down to eat a meal,  and when they looked up, there was a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead.  Their camels were carrying aromatic gum, balsam, and resin, going down to Egypt.


Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, and to the fading flower of its beautiful splendour, which is on the summit above the rich valley. Woe to those overcome with wine.
