As they watch, dig through the wall and take the bags out through it.


The prince who is among  them will lift his bags to his shoulder in the dark and go out. They  will dig through the wall to bring him out through it. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.


For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will anyone give in exchange for his life?


Their silver and their gold will be unable to rescue them on the day of the  Lord’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of his jealousy, for he will make a complete, yes, a horrifying end of all the inhabitants of the earth.


For on that day, every one of you will reject the worthless idols of silver and gold that your own hands have sinfully made.


On that day people will throw their worthless idols of silver and gold, which they made to worship, to the moles and the bats.


Then the city was broken into,  and all the warriors fled  at night by way of the city gate between the two walls near the king’s garden,  even though the Chaldeans surrounded the city. As the king made his way along the route to the Arabah,


So they followed them as far as the Jordan. They saw that the whole way was littered with clothes and equipment the Arameans had thrown off in their haste. The messengers returned and told the king.


Gilead  remained beyond the Jordan. Dan, why did you linger at the ships? Asher remained at the seashore and stayed in his harbours.


Then the city was breached, and all the warriors fled. They left the city at night by way of the city gate between the two walls near the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans surrounded the city. They made their way along the route to the Arabah.


Therefore, they will now go into exile as the first of the captives, and the feasting  of those who sprawl out will come to an end.
