About that time there was a major disturbance about the Way.


But when some became hardened and would not believe, slandering the Way in front of the crowd, he withdrew from them, taking the disciples, and conducted discussions every day in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.


But I admit this to you: I worship the God of my ancestors according to the Way,  which they call a sect, believing everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets.


Since Felix was well informed about the Way,  he adjourned the hearing, saying, ‘When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case.’


He had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit,  he was speaking and teaching accurately about Jesus, although he knew only John’s baptism.


And he has authority here from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.’


‘I was travelling to Damascus under  these circumstances with authority and a commission from the chief priests.


He dealt deceitfully with our race and oppressed our ancestors by making them abandon their infants outside so that they wouldn’t survive.


Opposition arose, however, from some members of the Freedmen’s Synagogue, composed of both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, and they began to argue with Stephen.


And he and his servants deployed against them by night, defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah to the north of Damascus.


A pronouncement  concerning Damascus: Look, Damascus is no longer a city. It has become a ruined heap.


About Damascus: Hamath and Arpad are put to shame, for they have heard a bad report and are agitated, like  the anxious sea that cannot be calmed.


Beware of them, because they will hand you over to local courts   and flog you in their synagogues.


Jesus told him, ‘I am   the way,   the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.


All who heard him were astounded and said, ‘Isn’t this the man in Jerusalem who was causing havoc for those who called on this name and came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests? ’


I actually did this in Jerusalem, and I locked up many of the saints in prison, since I had received authority for that from the chief priests. When they were put to death, I was in agreement against them.


In Damascus,  a ruler  under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus in order to arrest me.


I did not go up to Jerusalem  to those who had become apostles  before me; instead, I went to Arabia  and came back to Damascus.
